School library

The shortage of the cultural tool in rural areas is generally reinforced by the deficits of the infrastructures, either little or not adapted to a library, to the sometimes harsh climatic conditions for the conservation of works, the restricted or inexistent accessibility to Internet or finally the lack of staff training.

Funding for rural school libraries is therefore a major issue and generally neglected for various reasons: the local economy is too weak, other sectors to be favored such as agriculture or animal husbandry, the already very penalizing lack of basic school supplies for students, thus depriving any additional school expenses and also for lack of recognition.

Since the beginning of the ALEDD adventure, the teachers of Diaglé primary school have always expressed the need to have a dedicated storage space for all school books, open to everyone in order to come and take their school books and d '' Access other children's reading books.

ALEDD therefore carried out at the same time as renovations of the primary school in 2017 (paintings of the classes, new wall chart in each class, renovation of the staircase of a class block, etc.) the construction of a dedicated space separate from classrooms, and the development of a small rural library for the primary school in Diaglé.

This first step is therefore essential in order to have a dedicated place that can accommodate children and of course ... lots of books!

One word about books. ALEDD has received many solidarity gestures and has been asked to collect school books from all sides. We are obviously very touched by all the generosity of people ... but this has a significant impact on the treasury of the association (see the ALEDD page in Figures ), which is difficult to support at the moment.

Indeed, the delivery of a container from France is an operation requiring a lot of logistics to collect book donations on the territory, then still expensive to transport to Senegal - weight / cost ratio - and finally transport to 'at the Rural Village of Diaglé.

In addition, the National Education of Senegal establishes as everywhere else a precise education program for children, adapted to their needs, regularly validating the content of school books, thus invalidating educational programs from other school textbooks from other regions. of the world.

Finally, in the philosophy of the ALEDD association, we love the promotion of local resources and energies and thus make local businesses work, motivate the generosity of the country and solicit local literary creation through strong cultural identification and appropriate for children.

Help us improve this project!

Everything is possible with culture! But it also depends on the resources we will have in the following years ...

The next stages of this project :

- Increase the capacity of the shelves already installed and widen the library corner,

- Set up a reading area where banbins can find themselves in peace for their literary breaks , with floor mats and cushions.
